Mitsotakis: “We will abolish Paraskevopoulos’ law”

A statement he made after the outcry from recent home invasion in Athens

The leader of the main opposition party New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated on Tuesday that he will abolish the so-called “Paraskevopoulos law” which allows convicts who have served a portion of their sentence to be released with conditions from prison. The law was introduces in an attempt to relieve prison overcrowding.

“Innocent citizens are paying for the ideological obsessions of Paraskevopoulos’ law. We will abolish it,” he tweeted.

The law was submitted in 2015.

Mitsotakis’ statement follows a violent home invasion of a four-member gang in the apartment of an elderly woman on Athens’s southern suburb of Palio Faliro.
