Greece’s major opposition party New Democracy (ND) has submitted a proposal for the setting up of a special parliamentary committee to investigate the involvement of Defence Minister Panos Kammenos in the Noor-1 case. The proposal was singed by the all of the conservative party’s deputies. The main opposition party is demanding for an official inquiry into the possible implication of Defence Minister Panos Kammenos and other officials holding public office in a pending legal case in order to highlight possible illegal involvement. The proposal highlights that fact that even though the Defence Minister himself was open for the setting up of a preliminary hearing on the matter, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras turned down the proposal. Mr. Kammenos is accused of speaking with a convicted criminal who was charged with drug trafficking on a legal case over the phone. Meanwhile, ND spokesperson Vassilis Kikilas accused SYRIZA-ANEL government of doing everything it it powers to cover up a rancid affair. “No matter how many decades pass, Mr. Tsipras will not be able to prevent the truth from coming to the light”, he said.
Responding to the proposal, Mr. Kammenos unleashed a scathing attack against New Democracy speaking of an attempt to reverse the roles of defendants and suspects to the accusers.
