A coordinated rescue operation was launched in the early hours at Firiplaka, a beach on Milos, an island in the Cyclades known for its volcanic rock formations, to bring a 33-year-old man down safely from a rock roughly 20 metres high. He had climbed to the top of the rock but then realised he was unable to get back down without help and was stuck there.

Once the Port Authority of Milos was informed, the operation was organised, involving Coast Guard and Hellenic Police officers, firefighter-rescuers, staff from Milos Health Centre and private lifeguards, with the volunteer team supplying the necessary equipment.

Rescuers reached the man at the top of the rock and carried out the steps needed to bring him down safely. He was in good health.Several services and rescue teams were called in to free him, as the spot was steep and difficult to reach.
