New Democracy demands answers on offshore companies amendment

The government is forced to either amend the provision in question or to support it and deal with social outrage

The Greek government is trying to find a specious way to change the amendment on offshore companies scandal that led to political turmoil after Proto Thema newspaper revealed that the specific amendment was included in the omnibus bill passed in parliament a few days ago.

The main opposition party, New Democracy, has decided to submit a formal question in parliament regarding the inclusion of the amendment that allows MPs and politicians to own offshore companies in tax havens countries.

ND’s initiative forces the government to either amend the provision in question or to support it and deal with social outrage.

Up to now, however, the government continues lashing out at the press that revealed the scandal and New Democracy over an issue involving Stavros Papastavros, ex-associate of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.
