Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won his first Oscar for his performance in survival epic The Revenant.
He was named best actor at the 88th Academy Awards that took place on February 28 at Dolby Theatre, Hollywood.
In his acceptance speech, DiCaprio brought attention to global warming stating “Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species. We need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu won the Best Director Award for The Revenant. This is the sixth Academy Award nomination for Alejandro G. Iñárritu and his fourth win.
During his acceptance speech, Iñárritu thanked his father and gave a shout out to Oscar nominee, Leonardo DiCaprio.
Brie Larson is the 2016 Oscar winner for Best Actress for her stunning performance in The Room. She was announced by presenter Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl).
Spotlight won the best picture Oscar, while Mad Max: Fury Road picked up the most awards of the night, with six accolades.
