P. Moscovici, the latest EU official paying visit to Greece

The EU Commissioner is in Athens on Tuesday and Wednesday for meetings with Greek government officials

European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici is on a two-day visit to Greece on Tuesday and Wednesday. As one of the latest EU officials doing the rounds in the country, he will meet with government officials and be briefed on the implementation of the Greek program.

This afternoon he will meet with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at Maximos Mansion, the government’s headquarters. Later, at around 6.30 p.m., the EU Commissioner will meet with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Alternate Finance Minister George Chouliarakis.

In a recent interview, Moscovici stated that the Greek government is required to take some difficult decisions by the end of the year so as to receive funds from its international creditors (European Commission, European Central Bank, International Monetary Fund, European Stability Mechanism). “There are challenges, there are difficult decisions that need to be taken by the end of the year,” he said.
