Soldiers take photographs at the Lion of Amphipolis in times of war and peace

Worldwide attention on the ancient tomb at Amphipolis has dredged any publicity and documents related to the area. Amongst the photo documents related to the area are a series of photos taken by British soldiers of the 2nd King’s Shopshire Light Infantry in 1916. The soldiers posed with skulls excavated during the construction of trenches and dugouts.

Another photograph taken in 1992 shows a tourist posing in front of the Lion of Amphipolis still in the same place.

Recently, a book written by Oscar Broneer and published in 1941, contains rare photographs of the lion monument of Amphipolis.
