Lefkata Appollona (Sappho’s Leap)

If you are a history buff, then this is the perfect spot for you

If you are a history buff, then this is the perfect spot for you. Tradition has it that the spot where the lighthouse stands (60m above sea level), was the exact site where sacrifices to the gods were made. According to legend, however, after the 6th century, lovers in despair would make their own sacrifices at the spot. It is believed that the poet Sappho was the first to jump from this cliff, hence its name. This site should definitely be on your bucket list when visiting the island.
