Idea supported by French President Francois Hollande

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras met with Italian counterpart Mateo Renzi on the sidelines of the EU Summit and ways to promote a Mediterranean development plan within the framework of the EU. According to Greek government sources, the idea had the support of French President Fransois Hollande, and Portuguese PM Antonio Costa, while the Mediterranean ‘poole’ could also include Spain in an effort to bring economic balance between North and South Europe.
