South Aegean region leverages social media and online platform to promote islands

Marketing strategy part of 2016-2020 tourism growth road map

The southern Aegean island region has entered into the digital era by adopting a complete tourism marketing strategy in its efforts to promote its destinations to visitors across the globe in new innovative ways. The new digital marketing strategy involves integrated social media network management and the presence of the islands on an interactive platform, allowing each island to separately promote its unique brand name online to prospective tourists. The initiatives are undertaken within the framework of the 2016-2020 Strategic Tourism Development Plan road map of the specific Aegean region, in conjunction with Marketing Greece and SETE. The interactive content management and communication platform aims at enabling an immediate, cohesive and effective communication between the southern Aegean islands. The innovative platform will act as very useful tool in the hand of local government and allow it to utilise new technologies to tap into a vat online audience of tourists around the world. Moreover, the website ellikenoother.aegeanislands.gr will host more than 40 thematic stories of the islands, while it will include special pages dedicated to every island with visitors’ feedback, sourced through the hashtag #aegeanlikenoother.
