SYRIZA leader Tsipras: Chaikalis rose to the occasion

Mr. Tsipras referred to the stench of corruption in Greece and underlined that the country must find a way to come out of the mire.

Addressing his party’s Regional Conference in Kozani on Saturday, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said that Pavlos Chaikalis, the ANEL MP who reported last Friday that someone attempted to bribe him in order to vote for President of the Republic, rose to the occasion and did his duty.

During his speech, Mr. Tsipras referred to the stench of corruption in Greece and underlined that the country must find a way to “come out of the mire”.

Urging the authorities to take swift action, SYRIZA leader said that, since yesterday, the Greek people have been watching speechless the latest developments in Pavlos Chaikalis case which involves blackmails, bribery attempts and even worse offences and reeks of the stench of corruption.

“Whatever is behind this sordid story, we must point out that Mr. Chaikalis has done his duty,” Mr. Tsipras said, adding that by rising to the occasion, the ANEL MP proved that not everyone in Greece is corrupted.
