In an interview for Realnews newspaper, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said that he is determined to abolish the Uniform Real Estate Ownership Tax, known as ENFIA, if his party wins the next general elections.

Presenting his program for the first 100 days after his party’s election, Mr. Tsipras said that the new parliament will cancel the memoranda and apply immediate measures of social solidarity, such as the restoration of the minimum wage and pensions to the level they were before the memoranda.

“We are not here to manage Greece’s subordination, we are here to abolish it” he said.

SYRIZA leader clarified that he will not support the continuation of the regime brought by the memoranda. “We will not yield to coercion and terrorist dilemmas, signing leonine agreements and memoranda that devastate and enslave the Greek people, supposedly in the name of their salvation.”

Referring to the Presidential election, Mr. Tsipras noted that the people had expressed their will in the European elections, condemning the government. “The election of a President at this point would mean the continuation and completion of the disaster,” he added.

He also stated that SYRIZA will not propose a candidate for President because “cohesion over the name of the President should and must be formed after the people have expressed their will”.
