1. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Greece
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, is located at the southwest slope of the Acropolis Hill, Athens, Greece and was constructed in 174AD. It originally had a wooden roof and a capacity of 5,000. The seating and stage was restored in the 1950s and since when it has hosted many concerts and performances by world-wide artists.
2. The Seebühne Austria
The Seebühne (floating stage) emerges from the Austrian waters of Lake Constance, and is the most dramatic setting for performances at the Bregenz Festival.
3. Gran Teatro La Fenice Italy
Venice’s La Fenice theatre staged world premieres of operas by Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi. The theatre’s name means “the Phoenix”, which is appropriate as it has burned down twice in its 224-year history.
4. Copenhagen Opera House Denmark
The construction of the Copenhagen Opera House costs of some £300 million – which made it one of the most expensive opera houses ever built.
5. Fox Theatre USA
The Fox Theatre, Detroit, was built for the Fox Film Corporation in 1928 and its designer, C Howard Crane, used a blend of African and Asian motifs – what he called “Cambodian Gothic”.
