Varoufakis backs two candidates in Lafazanis’s Popular Unity party

Only options are Communists or Lafazanis, he says

Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis gave his indirect support to newly formed leftist party Popular Unity by endorsing two of its candidates, former Alternate Finance Minister Nadia Valavani and former Alternate Defence Minister Kostas Isichos. Varoufakis praised the two for their ‘ethos, work ethic and especially for their consistent stance in not caving in to the ‘sirens’ of corruption and defending national sovereignty’. In a statement published on leftist site ‘thepressproject.gr’, Varoufakis said the purpose of the elections was to invalidate the ‘No’ vote in the July referendum, while ‘legitimizing’ the capitulation with the 3rd memorandum. He repeats his view that the implementation of the terms of the new memorandum is impossible, narrowing down the options the Greek electorate have, if it disagrees with the pro-memorandum parties to either the Communist party or the Popular Unity party.
