Who is to blame for the same-sex partnership bill? The “Zionist monster”, says top bishop

Bishop Seraphim is critical of the same-sex partnership agreement and holds anti-semitic views

Leading Bishop Seraphim of Piraeus said the cohabitation bill is a result of the “constant war against the true faith being waged by the international Zionist monster” that has control of the Greek government.

The bishop states that he will cut ties with Greek lawmakers supporting the bill with their vote in Greek Parliament on Tuesday because he states that the bill subverts human sexuality and destroys the traditional family unit.

The bishop’s reference to the “zionist monster” is not the first anti-semitic statement he has made. In 2010, he told a Greek TV station that Jews had orchestrated the Holocaust and were behind Greece’s financial woes though he later clarified that he was expressing his personal opinion rather than the official line of the Church of Greece.

The new bill that will give Greek same-sex couples the same right as heterosexual couples under the law and will also increase their inheritance rights. If Greek Parliament doesn’t ratify the bill, it could face the European Court of Justice and sanctions for failure to transpose EU law into Greek law.
