A wildfire that broke out early Saturday in the area between the monastery of Asomatou and Apolakkia Dam on southern Rhodes is in progress.
The fire reached residential areas burning warehouses. Many settlements have been evacuated for precautionary reasons, including the village Apolakkia, while fire service managed to put the fire under partial control at Isrios, Monolithos and Sianna settlements, after fighting the blaze for many hours, as the deputy mayor Agapitos Pallas told Rodiaki.
A huge force of firefighters, including 38 firefighters and 13 vehicles, assisted by groups of volunteers and firefighting aircrafts are currently battling the blaze.
