145K married Greeks in 'Ashley Madison' online hacking scandal

37 million registered users of ‘Ashley Madison’ get personal details exposed

Once hackers managed to breach the security system of the data of extramarital dating site ‘Ashley Madison’, accessing personal details of 37 million users, married men and women around the world are having sleepless nights. On the surface it might seem a ‘spicy’ and light story, but there is a darker side with more tragic consequences, as the suicide of police officer Michael Gorhum proves. It was eventually discovered that officer Gorhum was not on the list of e-mails exposed after the hackers had gained access to the data. From now on the 145,000 Greeks who are registered members of the site, will live with the fear of their ‘kinky’ and secret sexual desires being exposed to the public and reaching their spouses. After an investigation by Proto Thema, every user’s profile includes their particular sexual preferences and likes, meaning that a disclosure of such data could completely compromise the member in all aspects of their lives, from professional to personal. The ‘Ashley Madison’ sex scandal has even touched on the respected religious and political organisations like the Vatican, the UN  and the White House. British newspaper ‘Guardian’ claims to have access to photos of members along with such details as height and weight.
