How ex-PM A. Tsipras got his wife, Betty, a cushy job

Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion, but the same doesn’t apply to the spouses of Greek politicians

Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras managed to secure an appointment for his wife, Peristera Baziana, just a day prior to his resignation as prime minister reports Demokratia newspaper. His wife was appointed as a technology teacher. Alternate education minister Tasos Kourakis approved the position and ensured that her name was included in the list of 82 temporary transfers to universities and technical colleges for the next two years so that she wouldn’t have to move from school to school in different shifts with the hoi polloi. The same had been the case for the 2013-2014 school year, in a decision signed by former education minister Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos, and for 2014-2015 in a decree signed by former education minister Andreas Loverdos.
