What else are we going to hear in the name of “protecting” the environment, driven by the hunger for votes and political influence?

The German Minister of Transport, Volker Wissing, is addressing the country’s climate issue with threats to ban private car usage on weekends if the government does not revise certain environmental laws.

Germany’s transportation sector has failed to meet its climate goals, and according to the law, measures must be taken to rectify this.

The minister argues that if amendments to climate laws are not made promptly, draconian measures such as a weekend driving ban may need to be imposed.

His opponents disagree, claiming that Wissing seeks to instill fear and reap political benefits.

Wissing, a member of the Free Democratic Party, has long opposed climate measures such as speed limits on highways.

Now, he is advocating for a government amendment that would allow industries with high emissions to emit more than legally permitted, provided other sectors reduce their emissions to balance the national level.

According to The Local newspaper, Germany is obligated to reduce its emissions by 65% between 1990 and 2030, and it must achieve annual emission targets.

Despite pressure on the ministry, Julia Verlinden, deputy leader of the Green Party, stated that Wissing’s claims are false and added that ministers should not scare the population to achieve their goals.

The proposal for an unprecedented weekend driving ban is already on the table, and some are seriously considering it. It may be challenging to implement, but with political correctness and electoral games, you can never be sure.
