15 arrests in occupation of Athens univ.; deans call for state help

The state need to protect universities, say deans

Ten Greeks and five foreign nationals were arrested late on Monday after occupying the Athens Kapodistrian University’s administration office.

Police said one of the people arrested was a Polish national for whom a European arrest warrent for drug dealing is pending.

The university administration had been occupied for 17 consecutive days by “anti-state” activists.

Meeting of the Council of Deans

Following the arrests, a meeting of deans called on the Greek state to protect education institutions. The Council of Deans of the Athens Kapodistrian Universities said the government owes it to university students and citizens to protect tertiary education institutions.
