Britain is expecting the 46 Greek-Cypriot Michael Voudouris with “open arms”. The man is number 1 on the Scotland Yard wanted list. Voudouris is accused for a multi-million pounds fraud against the British government and was lately hiding in occupied Cyprus, in order to avoid arrest.
Michael Voudouris fled to the occupied parts of Cyprus after having been released on bail by a British court 14 months ago. He was discovered by the occupational authorities in a restaurant in Ammohostos and detained for “illegal entry” in the occupied territories. The fake passport was not found, since he claimed it had been destroyed. Voudouris had bought a mansion in the occupied village of Bougazi where he was staying. After his conviction, he is expected to be “deported” and as everything points towards, the occupational forces will hand him over to British Bases so he can be brought back to Britain through processes of the Cypriot Democracy. He might also be delivered to the Turkish authority to be given to Britain via Turkey.
Voudouris, according to the British courts, had appropriated 10.3 million pounds through non-payment of VAT. He had confessed to committing the offense and Scottish authorities believe that the money has been placed in bank accounts in Cyprus, Greece and Switzerland. Voudouris was making supposed sales within the EU through Q-Tech Distribution Ltd based in Glasgow and received VAT without paying taxes. During his interrogation he also confessed to another 1.2 million pounds tax evasion case. It is noteworthy that Scottish authorities had, at first, charged him for fraud of 45 million, but after his cooperation and admitting his crimes the charge was converted to amount to 10.3 million. On his return to Britain he is expected to serve 10 years in prison, which was imposed last December in absentia, since Voudouris never appeared in court.
Data from British authorities seem to point out was going in and out from the free areas of Cyprus using a false passport. He was under the illusion that he would avoid being captured in the occupied territories like other refugees from Britain. However, his so-called “illegal” entrance in the occupied territories was the chance that authorities needed to arrest him.
