The French Institute of Athens will be open to the public from 7pm until 2am tomorrow, on Friday May the 2nd, for the event: “Night of Philosophy”.
The idea was born in Paris in June 2010, on the initiative of the Ecole normale supérieure where more than 1800 people attended lectures, readings, movies, shows and performances.
The great success of this event led to its repeat two more times, in 2011 and 2013, and it is quickly spreading beyond France, making a stop in London in June 2012, Athens, in May 2014 and Berlin in the Autumn.
The format of the event in Athens is the same as the first event: more than forty Greek and French philosophers, intellectuals and artists involved in various areas of the entire Institute, in events with a central theme of “The Word”, the diversity of its meaning, extent and analyzing as many aspects as possible.
Among other things, there will be individual lectures, round tables with various schemes such as the relationship between philosophy and politics, literature, art, etc, film screenings and commentary on famous personalities, theatrical performances of philosophical plays, and many other events that will succeed each other, on all the Institute’s floors, linked together by an illuminated path to be created specifically for the occasion.
Philosophy is the heart of the actions of the French Institute of Greece, and the Night of Philosophy is the culmination of the events organized for the “Word”.
Admission is free to the public. There will be simultaneous translations in all events.
