The Cyrpus issue and the Confidence Building Measures were the focus of the meeting with Cypriot Foreign Minister I. Kasoulides and Assistant Secretary General of the UN for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman.
According to an official announcement, Mr. Kasoulides raised the issue of Mr. Feltman’s statement after his meeting with Turkish Cyptior leader Dervis Eroglu on which he spoke of “Two peoples”.
Mr. Feltman asked that his statement not be seen as something intentional but as a lapsus lingue (language error) stressing that it was his intention to talk to two leaders and two sides. He noted that with the completion of his contacts, Mr. Feltman and the UN will make an announcement in which they will use the correct terminology and therefore the matter will be considered closed.
During the meeting they discussed issues on the substance of the Cyprus settlement talks and confidence-building measures.
They also discussed issues of current importance, on which the Cypriot Republic’s views were raised for which diplomatic solutions are sought.
