Although, the mayor of Ellinikos-Argyroupoli disrtrict, Mr Christos Kortzidis, was a “model” reaching the sphere of “heroes” for left-wing field and SYRIZA, he now becomes a ‘ nightmarish paradox” regarding the fights his political and social field support.

Mr. Kortzidis disappointed even the most well intentioned people, who believe that big words and a fighting attitude are good enough to perform effectively the municipality tasks.

After the accident occurred, the mayor of Ellinikos disappeared for three days and he then appeared as if he did not understand anything. Although he is part of the local government almost all of his life, he did not admit that the municipality has responsibilities and he passed the buck to … the impersonal system. He did not even apologize and of course there was no mention of submitting his resignation, even for sensitivity reasons.

The attitude and behaviour of his political patrons, meaning the SYRIZA leadership, was also awkward, hypocritical and provocative. They did not even publish a relative statement regarding the death of the 13-year-old boy. Whereas in other cases of similar tragic incidents SYRIZA hastens to issue findings and to denounce those who are responsible makers, in this case where a child lost his life they recommended to keep low profile and wait until the research is completed and conclusions are drawn.

Everybody understood that if he had been a mayor who supported the memorandum policies and not a mayor who criticizes strongly the Troika practices, SYRIZA would have condemned the incident right away and continued their opposition policy against government, Troika, Merkel and so on.
