A shocking video for the “smart mobile phone” and “tablet” generation was created and uploaded on the net by writer-director Gary Turk. It aims to awaken young people to the fact that they have gradually lost all human contact, restricting themselves to the only way of communication they have learned, through the use of devices. The video starts with a really moving monologue: “I have 422 friends, yet I am lonely. I speak to all of them every day, yet none of them really know me.”
The five-minute video entitled “Look Up” urges the viewers to lift their gaze from computers and smartphones, though which they believe they communicate with others, go out on the road and show their true love to friends, children, animals, people that have hitherto been mere “contacts” in the telephone directory.
He concludes by saying: Look up from your phone. Shut down that display. Stop watching this video. Live life the real way…
