The Greeks in Mariupol of the Ukraine, the city which was the epicenter of the theater of conflict between the Ukrainian army and pro-Russian separatists on Friday, are all fine.
According to the Greek consul in Mariupol, Dimitris Papandreou, who spoke on Mega channel, the thousands of Greeks within the city have not been attacked and are not at risk.
However, the building of the consulate, which is located near the police building that was the focus of Friday’s clashes was evacuated after a talk between the Consul and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.
“We are safe, but this is still not reassuring”, characteristically stated Mr. D. Papandreou, who, while On Air, said he was able to hear a big explosion within the city but was not able to identify the cause or location.
