Today is the World Environment Day and is a milestone for the United Nations, as it symbolizes the need to come together and act jointly for the common goal to preserve our environmental heritage and to maintain the sustainable management of our world’s natural wealth.
More than 100 countries celebrate this day by reminding us our responsibilities towards the environment, our duty to protect the planet for us and for the future generations.
“Raise your voice, not the sea level”
The United Nations chose this message for the World Environment Day in order to highlight the dangers of the climate change and the necessary measures to be taken to address the problem. At European level, the “Green Week” is dedicated this year to the circular economy, resource efficiency and waste management.
To celebrate the World Environment Day, the Greek Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change has organized a Workshop presentation of the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans, as well as a series of actions to raise the environmental awareness, such as photograph and video contest, video screening on environmental messages and happenings for children to inform and raise awareness on recycling.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change Yiannis Maniatis said: “We make every effort to strengthen the message of environmental awareness, especially to the new generation. The substance is on the participation, collaboration and co-ordinated action of all of us,”.
