The Greece national football team is ready for its first match against Colombia which will begin at 7 (GMT+2) in Sao Paulo and Greek footballers will fight for the win.
Greek team has to face, apart from the favorite of the group, its bad tradition of the premieres of the World Cup, since Greek team lost in the first match of the two previous World Cups.
Around 1,000 Greeks will be at the stadium to cheer for the Greek team. Several fans have travelled from Greece and many live in Brazil, mainly in Sao Paulo.
The Portuguese coach of the Greek team has decided on the ten of the eleven players who will begin the match: Karnezis, Torosidis, Papastathopoulos, Manolas, Cholempas, Maniatis, Katsouranis, Kone, Salpigidis and Samaras. However, the coach has no decided yet if he will choose Mitroglou or Gekas as the main striker.
The referee of the match will be the American Mark Geiger.
“If we stick to defence, then we will lose. We will both attack and defend. We need midfielders and strikers and we have to play as a team,” the coach of Greek team Santos said adding “Let’s go for the win”.
He also seemed not to worry a lot about the climatic conditions saying that in Belo Horizonte things are not so bad as in Fortaleza and Natal where Greece will play the other two matches.
