While the Iraqi government calls for Barack Obama’s assistance in the battle against the Sunni militants who continue their killing spree in the country, a report released by the insurgents themselves records in explicit detail the number of the shocking crimes committed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS.
The 410-page report on the … accomplishments of the members of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant lists dozens of assassinations, suicide bombings and knifings and covers only a period of one year.
According to its report that was translated by the Institute for the Study of War, ISIS claims to be responsible for 9,540 operations in Iraq, 1,083 assassinations and freeing hundreds of radicals from prisons in Iraq.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, the member of ISIS release the annual report entitled al-Naba (The News) to show how “centrally distributed resources such as suicide bombers” are used and for internal purposes, so that more senior members of the central command can monitor how regional sections are doing.
It should also be noted that one of the main reasons for the release of the report would be to reassure funders that their money was being well spent.
It is no coincidence that the group have been dubbed “the world’s best resourced terror organisation”, rivaling the Taliban in Afghanistan, who profit from the heroin.
Before the capture of Mosul, Iraqi officials estimated the group had a total of £515 million in cash and assets. After the city was taken over this figure could have jumped by as much as another $1.5 billion, the Guardian reports.
