An enterprising hotelier in Henan – a province in east-Central China – has created an unusual hotel retreat where guests can enjoy crammed but sturdy accommodation in reused industrial pipes.

He took long cement tubing that was chopped up into some 15 separate mini-structures – each designed to host two people and contains a double bed. It may prove to be a little crammed but it does come with air-conditioning and is sound-proofed.

The accommodation isn’t exactly for those who want to be in the lap of luxury, however despite its spartan appearance there are a few creative touches such as street art painted onto the outside walls.

Despite being on the rudimentary side, the no-frills accomodation is popular with holidaymakers who wish to sample the simple pleasures of rural China. The no-frills hotel hopes to attract city-slickers from the province’s busy cities.
