The Ministry of Finance is targeting in replacing rather than eliminating excessive income taxes along with severe property taxation that have proven to be ineffective, with others which will be less painful and selected after α “sensitivity test” for their impact (not just financial).
That way, a “window” is opening for changes to me made once again in 2015 in property taxation and other recovery measures.
A source within the Ministry of Finance said that it is necessary for all measures to be implemented, agreed upon and linked to the upcoming review of the Troika, in order not to lose the country’s credibility in negotiations. However, it was also stressed that other equally effective measures have to be brought about so as to achieve the same budgetary objective, without any “blind” sacrifices.
Apart from the above, high on the agenda of the new Minister of Finance is the issue of tax evasion. He has stated that he will deal and look into it, in much more detail than the previous Ministers had.
Furthermore, the Minister of Finance will be looking into the other big problem that Greece is facing, which is to retrieve liquidity to the economy and allow the market to breathe .
