Regions of the country in which consumers can make their purchases and Sundays have been defined by Ministerial decision of the Ministry of Development . It has already been signed and awaiting publication in Government Sheet.
The areas in which the shops will be open on Sundays are mainly the historic centers of Athens and Thessaloniki as well as in regions of Pikermi and Rafina, Halkidiki, Rhodes, Kos, Syros, Mykonos and Santorini.
In the memorandum was stated that this ministerial decision should be issued at the 7th of July 2014 and its action will be following review by troika.
Based on what has been agreed with Troika, plus the experience gained from the implementation of the measure in the above areas , the issue of the shops being open on Sunday will be reassessed in spring of 2015, without ruling out the full liberalization of opening hours throughout the country.
By the 7th of October 2014, the Minister of Development will have to issue a ministerial decision which will adopt a code of conduct for the consumers protection for discounts and promotions.
The current status will be reviewed at the end of this year so that by the spring of 2015 a legislation will be introduced that would eliminate the remaining restrictions.
