Labour Minister Yannis Vroutsis responded to criticism against the coalition government against the abolition of a number of social security funds on Wednesday. “The truth is, that we have so far abolished 24 social security funds’ resources. Three of which in the current omnibus draft bill. The total value of the abolished social resources comes up to 200 mln euros”, he noted, adding that the opposition is acting irresponsibly.
He added that outdated “guild taxes” that started back in 1926 are constitionally unfair pointing to one such example. “We are now abolishing a law for the treatment of OTE employees with tuberculosis”, said Vroutsis, pointing to this bill that has no reflection on today’s problems. He said that even though social security funds will be short of 200 million euros in theory, all Greeks will benefit in practise.
