Uma Thurman plays Greek goddess Hera in The Mundane Goddess (Watch the short film)

The film was created as part of an annual filmmaking contest called Jameson First Shot

Newsroom August 20 11:46

Famous Hollywood star Uma Thurman takes on the role of Greek goddess Hera in The Mundane Goddess, a short film from Kevin Spacey’s Trigger Street Productions.

The film was created as part of an annual filmmaking contest called Jameson First Shot, that offers three writer/directors the opportunity to get a ‘first shot’ in the film industry by having their short film produced by Trigger Street Productions whilst directing an A-list actor in the lead role.

Henco Jacobs is the 2014 South African winner of Jameson First Shot who got the chance to shoot his short film The Mundane Goddess, starring Uma Thurman.

The short film focuses on Hera, the Queen of the Greek Gods, who leads a fairly boring and mundane life among modern day humans. Hera decides to see a therapist, to discuss her problematic relationship with her husband, Zeus, his oppressive behavior and also his infidelities. Ultimately, Hera understands that the only way to find happiness is to resort to her old vengeful ways.

The original short film includes many amusing scenes, about Hera’s sex life that has fallen into a rut and also about her relationships with the others Greek goddesses.

“I have always loved Greek mythology,” said the creator of the film to 10and5.com. “We all struggle with life and try to be happy. It is a universal theme. This film is about being yourself, which is crucial to being happy. I just found it funny that a goddess would talk about her problems to a therapist,” he added.
