According to a spokesman of the UN peacekeeping mission in the country (MINUSMA), four peacekeepers were killed and another 15 injured when their truck fell in a landmine in northern Mali.
The peacekeepers departed from a UN base in Agkelok and headed south when the incident occurred today at noon local time (15:00 GMT), about 30 km north of Kidal, according to the spokesman.
“Four are dead and 15 wounded, including six in serious condition,” said Olivier Salgado. “This is an interim report because we do not know what the evolution of the six seriously injured will be,” he added.
Further Salgado noted that MINUSMA is investigating the incident, but is not yet in a position to clarify who is responsible for the attack.
Moreover a UN official, who asked not to be named, stated that the soldiers are from Chad.
