Main opposition Coalition of the Left leader Alexis Tsipras met with Yiannis Mihos, the newly-appointed mayor of Aristotelis at Halkidiki, on the sidelines of the 79th Thessaloniki International Trade Fair. The two men discussed the gold investment in Skouries that SYRIZA is opposed to. Tsipras referred to the different growth model he wants to promote in Northern Halkidiki – one that wouldn’t have repercussions to the environment.
Tsipras also met with Apostolos Tzitzikostas (photo), head of the prefecture of Central Macedonia. He expressed his wish to visit Amphipolis and said that he had learnt about the site a year ago when few people were interested in the excavation site and the Ministry of Culture “didn’t give a tuppence”. Tzitzikostas said that the prefecture had given 100,000 euros so that excavations could continue back then.
