The Ministry of Finance estimates that the measures announced by the main opposition party (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras cost over 13 billion more, even more than 17 billion euros.
According to information, the Ministry of Finance is expected to make relative statements today analyzing in details the cost of the measures announced by Mr. Tsipras.
The State General Accounting Office has already received specific orders following the meeting between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Vice-President Evangelos Venizelos to work on the measures and respond in details to the announcements of Mr. Tsipras.
According to officials, however, the government should check not only the cost of the measures, but also the funding sources on which the implementation of these measures is based.
As stated by a senior member of the economic team talking to journalists, “SYRIZA cannot say that they will find billions of euros by receiving NSRF funds and providing them to different actions than those agreed and, at the same time, threaten European partners, those who provide us with these funds, by saying Greece will not pay them back. This is something that you honestly cannot do”.
