Almost two-thirds of citizens in Germany now consider the US a major threat to global peace in the coming years, according to a representative poll that reveals a dramatic increase in this percentage compared to 2024.

The representative poll, conducted by the Allensbach Institute on behalf of the Center for Strategy and Higher Leadership, found that 65% of the sample responded to the US when asked which country they believe poses the greatest threat to world peace.

When asked the same question a year ago, that figure was no more than 46%. In 2024, only roughly a quarter of Germans (24%) identified the US as a threat to world peace.

Russia remains the country that most Germans see as a threat. Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian armed forces in February 2022, between 75% and 82% of samples consider Russia the greatest threat to world peace. Their percentage in this year’s survey is 81%.

46% of respondents consider China to be the country that poses the greatest threat to world peace.

The survey was conducted on a pan-German scale, from January 6 to 19, among a sample of 1,077 German citizens aged 16 and older.
