Prime Minister Antonis Samaras attempted to put an end to rumors for early elections which undermine political stability.

“Whoever speaks about national elections right now knows nothing of politics, does not want to serve the country’s interests or only wants to serve his own interests”, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said on Tuesday evening on his way to his Parliament office.

The Prime Minister preferred to have separate meetings with groups of MPs rather to discuss with all the MPs together.

Mr. Samaras responded to Yannis Michelakis on the debt negotiation issue by saying that the discussions will start after the scheduled Troika’s evaluation of the Greek program and said that the evaluation would be completed with positive results and Greece would be able to get the sustainability approval by the end of the year. When Maximus Charakopoulos, though, underlined that under that conditions, the government would be able to ensure the presidential majority and go to national elections with a more optimistic spirit, Mr. Samaras replied “who talked about elections, you should forget national elections”.

During the meetings, Antonis Samaras focused on the announcements made by the leader of main opposition party Alexis Tsipras at Thessaloniki International Fair. He said that there is no need for early elections, whereas regarding the cost of the measures announced by Tsipras, he said that might reach 27.2 billion euros and urged the MPS to address to Finance Ministry for the exact amount.

The Prime Minister referred also extensively to the excavations at Amphipolis tomb and the worldwide interest for that great discovery.
