The psychology of the Greeks has changed dramatically due the financial crisis that the country is facing, while a reduced sexual activity has been also reported. This has an effect of reducing both the desired and unwanted pregnancies, according to a research by the Second Obstetrics Clinic of the University of Athens.
More specifically, on the occasion of the World’s Contraception Day on the 26th of September, the professor of Midwifery – Gynecology of the University of Athens and Director of the Second Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the Areteiou Hospital, Mr. Giorgos Kreatsas, presented the results of a study which concluded that:” due to the economic crisis and the psychological state in which people are in our days, the reduction of abortions is not noted as a result of lucking information on contraception, but is a result of a reduction in the sexual activity of the Greek population “.
Further, the study also shows a lack of sexual education since around 48% of the young population who were surveyed have been informed on matters of sexual behavior on the internet, while 32% stated of being informed by from friends and only 7% of health professionals who, according to Mr. Kreatsas, are the most competent to give proper information.
