A congratulatory message was sent by U.S. President Barack Obama to Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades. The American president’s message characterized the Democracy of Cyprus as a “valuable friend and ally”.
President Obama mentioned that the continued cooperation between the two countries is of grave importance towards the area’s security and prosperity.
Mr. Obama also thanked the Cypriot President for the hospitality shown to Vice President Joe Biden during the latter’s historic visit to the island in May.
According to the U.S. president, the visit shows the United States’ commitment to bilateral relations and cooperation in common interest areas, including combating terrorism and encouraging stronger financial bonds.
President Obama reiterated his strong support for a settlement to reunite the island in a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.
