According to a revealing study by the Swiss private bank Julius Baer, from 2007 to our days the Greek households lost 170 billion euro.
Bank researchers added up the financiall assets and properties of the European households and removed their debts in order to produce a final estimate of their wealth.
The research shows that in 2013 private wealth in Europe reached the highest level ever, at 56 trillion euro, which was 17% higher compared to the previous year.
However, behind this general image of prosperity, there are hidden variations between different countries. For example, the Germans became richer by trillion euro more than they were pre-crisis and the Swiss by 1 trillion euro. However, in countries of the region and especially Spain and Greece the wealth loss is dramatic.
The Swiss bank came to the conclusion that Greek wealth reduced by 23% or that the Greek households lost 170 billion euro.
Greater wealth has been noted only in Spain, where its households became poorer by 28% for the same period.
