Papandreou: Humanity must take action to stop Jihadists

President of the Socialist Internationally Mr. Giorgos Papandreou makes a call to the international community to take concerted action to prevent humanitarian disaster in the city of Kobani in Syria located next to the border with Turkey and which is threatened with occupation by the Islamic state.

Mr. Papandreou states:

“The declaration adopted by the Bureau of the Socialist Internationally on the 25th of  September, in New York on developments in Iraq and Syria, emphasizing that humanity must take a clear position against authoritarian ideologies that aim to legitimize inhumane violence, such as ISIS.

The need to make every effort in order to effectively protect the innocent civilians in Syria and Iraq is absolutely necessary, as are encouraging policy initiatives that will strengthen the stability at the regional level.
The borders should facilitate the passage of those at risk and to limit the passage of extremists”.
