Female police officers swarmed to Crete for the 1st Conference of Women Police-Officers of the World. International members of the International Police Association (I.P.A) visited the island for five days of law enforcement from October 1 through to 5.
Guests at the Imperial Belvedere at Herakleion, Crete, could have been forgiven for thinking that the conference was for models until, ofcourse, the uniforms and handguns started coming out.
The conference gave police officers from 62 countries the opportunity to discuss the challenges that women police officers face and to give each other tips about matters female cops are traditionally assigned to deal with such as intrafamily violence, trafficking, drugs and child pornography.
They spoke about the challenges of working in a male-dominated field bearing in mind that only 20% of the world’s law enforcement agents are women. The female cops spoke about the dangers of a profession where their lives are constantly at risk.
They shared crime stories from around the world, from dealing with drunk tourists, undercover work to hand-to-hand combat with drug cartels.
A crime script writer for CSI with a notebook could have squeezed seasons and seasons worth of storylines from the tales they told.
At night, the uniforms came off and the all-girl party began as they danced the macarena, proving that just because they’re tough doesn’t mean they aren’t sexy.
