At the age of 81, Ruth Rose is now the oldest transsexual in Britain thanks to the British NHS that agreed to cover the whole cost of her sex change surgery.

The final stage of the transformation process was completed in July when James, a divorced father of three and grandfather of four became Ruth!

Ruth’s procedure and treatment on the NHS cost £4,000 and she remained in the hospital for five days.

The NHS operation drew criticism because of her age, but Ruth said that she always knew she was in the wrong body.

Britain’s oldest transsexual joined the RAF at 23, married in 1961 and stayed married for 42 years before taking a divorce.
