Euro 2016 qualifier: Greece vs. Ireland on Tuesday (see photos)

Greeks are primping for a home win while the Irish are cautiously optimistic

Newsroom October 14 10:25

Greece is playing Northern Ireland in Greece to qualify for the Euro 2016 finals. The Greek side’s defeat against Romania and drawed game with Finland in Helsinki means that a win is urgently sought on Tuesday.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill is cautiously optimistic that his team could be successful despite the fact that the Greek side remain favorites to reach the finals in Paris even though they have only collected one point so far. The team from Northern Ireland have already won their first two qualifiers.

“It’s about the 90 minutes, taking something from the game, all the other stuff is totally irrelevant to me,” said Mr. O’Neill, refering to statistics and favorites. “Our aim hasn’t changed just becaue we’ve had a good start and Greece have had a poor start, our objective is to try and finish in those top three positions.”

During the press conference on Monday, Greek footballer Vangelis Moras said that the game with Ireland is very important. “They have won two matches and we need to score a home win. That’s our goal,” he said. “We need to show decisiveness and score three goals. We know its a tough game. But we desire to do something good.”
