Prime Minister accuses main opposition party of triggering political instability

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras called president of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras to provide evidence regarding the allegations

Newsroom October 14 09:30

The statements expressed by SYRIZA’s spokesman regarding an alleged fundraiser launched by businessmen to win the support of 180 MPs in parliament and ensure, this way, the election of the new president of the republic, trigger a clash between coalition government and the opposition.

SYRIZA spokesman Panos Skourletis cited a press report claiming businessmen launched an alleged fundraiser to win the support of 180 MPs in parliament and ensure the election of the new president of the republic. These statements caused the reaction of the coalition government, as well as the intervention of the public prosecutor who will investigate the accusations of corruption and MPs’ bribery.

The government points to the judiciary on the wiretapping case: Negative on a new Parliamentary Inquiry, but awaiting a new proposal from PASOK

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras called president of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras to provide evidence regarding the allegations adding that if Mr. Tsipras fails to provide the necessary proof of what his party claimed, it will be clear that he is a destabilizing factor and promotes the political instability”.

Mr. Samaras also welcomed the urgent preliminary investigation ordered by a Supreme Court prosecutor of the public prosecutor regarding the allegations of bribery of MPs.

PASOK’s leader and Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos commented on these accusations and said that the investigation initiated by the public prosecutor was necessary and obligatory and added that the urgent preliminary investigation “will reveal the magnitude of the institutional sordidness of those who do not hesitate to use anything to keep alive their assault strategy on their desired takeover of government rule,”.
