PM Samaras: Greece does not need a new memorandum

No one is denying the country's success, said Mr. Samaras

Newsroom October 17 05:25

Speaking on the sidelines of the European Union-Asia Summit Meeting, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras underlined on Friday in Milan the Greece does not need a new memorandum, as it now has the fundamental indices and prospects to move forward.

Mr. Samaras noted that the country has made huge changes in terms of its public deficit and structural reforms, a fact that is widely acknowledged by all sides and stressed that the discussion about the country’s debt has now moved on to the “next day,” the post-memorandum era.

“No one is denying the country’s success. Moreover, if you examine carefully the latest official statements, you’ll see that no one doubts that now Greece has the fundamental indices and the prospects to move forward,” Mr. Samaras said.

“Greece has explained that we do not need a new memorandum,” the Prime Minister reiterated, adding that the possibility of a precautionary credit line to protect the country against possible market turbulence is being discussed as part of the negotiations.

“We mustn’t let the political risk created by others jeopardize the progress of the country”, Mr. Samaras underlined.
