The Greek version of “El Clasico” many not have international football stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but what it lacks in glamour it makes up for in suspense.

What is described by Greeks as ‘Derby of the Eternal Adversaries’ and the ‘Mother of all Battles’, the derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos begun tonight at 07:30 pm local time.

The first and only goal of the game was scored in 59′ by Avlonitis with an impressive header, two minutes after entering the pitch, in exchange for Botia.

On the pitch, Olympiacos was the dominant force, having won 41 league titles, including the last four in a row.

The historic club faced in front of a pulsating crowd at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium Panathinaikos, that have not won the title since 2010 when they were crowned champions of Greece for the 20th time.
