The dead resident of Amphipolis was found! – See the amazing photos

Exciting discoveries!

Newsroom November 12 01:24

Curiosity is peaked about the impressive findings in Amphipolis. An announcement was made during the press briefing, where it was stated that an almost intact skeleton was discovered! The genetic material will be transferred to a special lab in order to find out the identity and establish the age.

Anna Panagiotarea, PR manager of the dig, said to attending journalists, “Wait a minute, have a little patience. We will know more soon”.

As announced, in the third chamber, a large makeshift tomb made of porous stones was discovered 1.6m under the floor of the chamber.

Also within the tomb was an elongated depression of 0.54m width and 2.35m length. During the press briefing,  it was announced that a wooden coffin was found in the tomb, something which is proven by about 20 iron and copper nails, as well as bone and glass decorations of the tomb, found thereabouts.

It should be noted that the total height of the third chamber from the top of the dome until the bottom is 8.9m. The skeleton was discovered within and without the tomb. It is also a given that the anthropological evidence will be investigated by special scientists.

The funerary complex on Kasta hill is a public work, for which the greatest quantity of marble ever in a Macedonian tomb, was used. According to the Ministry of Culture, this monument is a unique and original combination of various characteristics. It is an exceptionally expensive construction, which makes it almost impossible that it was undertaken by a private individual.
